Death Penalty:  Dead Wrong The concept of morality is a set of particular beliefs that varies from person to person.  These beliefs outline a standard of right and wrong conduct depending on cultural,  religious or philosophical views.  Michael Gazzaniga,  a psychology professor at Santa Barbara,  argues that "... there are certain universal,  guiding moral instincts” (421).  Most societies have similar ethical stances on certain issues,  such as murder.  Murder is considered by most of civilization to be a heinous crime which is usually brought to justice by the death penalty.  ​ Murder is unaccepted by society,  yet people seem to pacify themselves by killing criminals.  How can the government say it is wrong to kill when they are killing their own citizens?  The use of capital punishment is immoral and contradicts the value we are trying to uphold in our legal system.   The first known legal document containing use of the death penalty dates back to 1700 BC in " The Code of Hammurabi”.  This code refers to a set of rules or laws enacted by King…...
